Enough!
So, we took possession of this house on the 1st. It's been raining since the first. And I have had ENOUGH! Yes, we've been living in a drought area. But at this point, most places have made up their drought deficit and we can stop this already. High River (a town south of here) has been decimated by the flooding. I've seen the sun once in the last two weeks. Our garden is drowning.And our basement? Our basement in a house at the top of a decent sized hill? Is flooding. Three times so far. The first two times weren't bad - just a small puddle each time, in different rooms. But yesterday? At some point during the hours of intense downpour (it flooded Deerfoot Trail!) we sprung a pretty big leak - one that reached from the wall, into the wine making room and down the hallway. Crazy amount of water - filled a couple of pails. John seems to have fixed the problem, but it has to stop raining soon. We've made up for the drought.
And the hail? Our plants do not like the hail. Enough with the hail, too.
A few quotes from today's Calgary Herald: "Flash flooding in parts of southwest Calgary strand-ed cars in meters of water and turned intersections into swimming pools Sunday." "Last week in the city, 200 millimeters of rain fell in five days." That's about 8 inches, which for Vancouver, wouldn't be a problem. But for Calgary, a borderline desert? The first week of rain was more than half of our annual rainfall total - and it keeps raining!
I miss the sun.

Me too. These intermittent patches of blue-ish sky aren't good enough for me. I want my summer, and I want it now! The first few days of rain were fantastic; the last 10 have been overkill.
You have a wine making room?
Yeah. Actually, it's just a medium sized windowless room in the basement. For lack of anything else to put in it (it being beside a large small-windowed room we're using for storage and a pantry), it's become a wine making room. The tradeoff of moving to the suburbs, right.
